The Gers. Like many of the best nicknames, Rangers' most popular moniker comes from a simple shortening of their name. Ironically, fans often refer to the club as 'Glasgow Rangers', although the city in which they play has never formed part of their name officially.
The nickname Teddy Bears became popular during 1970s, inspired by Cockney rhyming slang. If one were to imitate a thick Glasgow accent, Bears will sound like Bers and that then rhymes with the word Gers - a shortened version of Rangers.
A little history. Borussia is the Latin word for Prussia, a former European state that comprised much of what today is Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Russia.
Since 1974, Dortmund have played their home games at Westfalenstadion; the stadium is the largest in Germany, and Dortmund has the highest average attendance of any association football club in the world. Borussia Dortmund's colours are black and yellow, giving the club its nickname die Schwarzgelben.
